Buying guide

A dealer who carries one brand will always tell you that brand is the answer. We carry three, so we can say what each is actually good at. It comes down to the duty, not the badge.

The short version

  • Cummins — when heavy step load is the problem: mills, plants, everything starting at once
  • Perkins — when the fuel bill is the problem: towers, offices and housing societies at part load
  • Deutz — when the site is the problem: dust, heat and a process that is not allowed to stop

Cummins: load handling and parts

Cummins takes heavy step load — compressors, looms and lifts starting together — without the voltage dip that trips the rest of the floor. It has thermal headroom for high ambient temperature and the widest spare-parts availability of the three in Pakistan, which is what actually determines downtime.

Perkins: fuel economy and smooth running

Perkins has the lowest fuel consumption of the three at part load, which is where a commercial set spends its life. It runs smoothly with low vibration and a cleaner exhaust, so it suits sets installed close to occupied floors, and its service items are commodity-priced.

Deutz: harsh sites and continuous duty

Deutz has a high torque reserve, so it recovers quickly from sudden load, and longer service intervals than the class average — fewer shutdowns across a year of continuous running. Its air path and cooling tolerate dust and heat that shorten the life of lighter engines.

How we actually choose

After seeing the load, not before. An engineer measures running and starting load on site, then recommends both a rating and a brand with the reasoning written down — and we will say so if a different engine suits you better than the one you came in asking for.

Ask an engineer
  • There is no single best. Cummins suits heavy industrial load, Perkins suits commercial buildings where fuel cost matters, and Deutz suits harsh, dusty, continuous-duty sites. The right one depends on what the set has to carry.

  • At part load, Perkins — which is why it usually costs less to own on a tower or a housing society. Published consumption for every rating we stock is on its product page.

  • Cummins has the widest spare-parts availability in Pakistan. We stock genuine filters, belts, injectors and controllers for all three brands at our Brandreth Road branch in Lahore.
